Digital Crime Scene Technician Certification Program

This program is intended to identify a community of individuals that have the ability to analyze, search, and document a crime scene as it relates to computer evidence. On completion of the program a student will be given a certificate and be placed on our website as a local contact.


Requirements:

Before receiving this certification a student must have completed our CF101 and CF204 courses, as well as pass a certification examination. Substitutions have to be approved by the director of the MSU Computer Forensics training Center.


Knowledge Requirements:

A student will be tested in the following areas:

  • Computer Hardware Basics
  • Search and Seizure Laws
  • Computer Hardware Handling and Storage Basics
  • Computer Crime Scene Essentials
  • Computer Initial Information Gathering and Takedown

  • Testing Procedure:

    Application to take an exam can be made online at www.security.cse.msstate.edu/certReg.php or by phone at 662.325.2756. Testing dates and times will be worked out during the application process. The two main testing centers are located at Mississippi State University in Starkville, MS and Mississippi Cyber Crime Fusion Center in Jackson, MS. Other testing locations will become available as more students become certified.

    Each test will consist of a written exam to take no longer than 2 hours and a practical exam to take no longer than two hours. Written exams will consist of true/false, multiple choice, and essay questions. Practical exams will involve the analysis of a crime scene.

    80% or higher signifies a passing grade.
